Creative Industries Evaluation: Term 01 2011

This film isn’t really a story about anything. It is more like a heap of shot types edited together to make a warm type of film. The film is warm and expresses sunlight as being happy. The audio that I selected to use is a song called Sunlight by the bag raiders. It also helps the feel of the movie be sunny and happy.

Synopsis

A synopsis is a summary given in brief terms that covers the major points of your film. Synopses are usually more in-depth than a mere "summary", and aim to give a fair idea of the topic.

Evaluation of Film Progress

Introduction:

Has your film been edited to engage the audience initially and to establish the tone of the piece?

Yes, as the picture used incorporates dark and warm colours. This creates the feeling of scary which my movie is. The text which I have used is simple and had an outlining colour which also positions the viewers to think it’s a scary movie.

What are you going to do to engage the audience? Describe the sounds, lighting, shot types and effects that fit with the genre of your film and how you will incorporate these at the start of your film.

The sounds that I will put in the movie will be short and sharp to create the feel that something is coming from somewhere. The lighting will obviously be dark and there will be a lot of shadows used within the movie. I will use this type of lighting as in every scary movie there is a lot of dark lighting used to create the mood of scary. It also helps to set the movie, as in scary movies usually have dark lighting which sometimes hide the bad guys faces. This will also be used in my movie as it helps hide people’s appearance until later in the movie. The shadows will be used a lot at the start so the viewers can get the feeling of my scary movie. The shot types that will be used will be lots of close ups on faces, so the expression of the actors can be seen, if they are scared or if they are evil. There will also be wide shots used at some stages so the whole background can be seen and the audience can also get a feel for that and can see where it’s set. The effects that will be used will be cuts and immediately changing into the next scene rather then floating across the screen as it needs to be quick and sharp to get across to the audience it’s a scary movie. 

Have you carefully chosen audio to suit the pace of the project?

Describe the audio and the pace

Yes I have chosen the correct audio as the song was called sunlight and the movie that I made was filmed outside in the sunlight. Throughout the movie the sunlight comes up a number of times which suits the movie. The pace is also correct as the mood of the movie is happy with the sun so the music is fairly up tempo.

Describe the pace of your music and the type of shots (close-up, mid, high, etc) that you will be creating to fit with the music

The shot types were just a lot of wide shots to show all the scenery. There were also a few close ups on the sun to show the brightness. This is mainly because the song is called sunlight so I had to get the footage to suit the song.

Have you included credits at the start or end of your film?

What information should be included here?

The only thing I included was a title at the start and by holly king. I probably should have put some credits at the end, but because I was running so far behind I didn’t have time to put any in at the end. The information I should have included should have been, maybe where it was filmed, who it was filmed by, and if there were any people included in the filming, the names of the people who were filmed.

Pace

Is the film edited to appropriately suit the rhythm of the scene? Describe the use of techniques such as selective timing and length of shots (either action or sound)

I tried to make some of the shots in time with the music so it would look more effective. Some of the shots are longer then others to go with the music.

Emotional intention

Have you edited the footage to create heightened expression and audience responses? Describe how you are going to achieve this. i.e. cross dissolves, graphic matches, effects etc

I incorporated a few transitions to help make the movie look better and have a better feel. I used some cross dissolves and other effects to make the movie have a happy feel to it.  

Editing techniques

Have you created links between shots and throughout the film to emotionally engage the viewer with your story ( i.e. is your film tied together through theme, colour, story, objects etc?)

Not really. I have used bright shot types and happy music to create the feeling of sun, which is happy.  It is mainly the colour of my shots that have made the film feel happy like it is.

1. what genre will you be creating a poster for?
- i will be creating the genre of a horror or scary movie

2. what colour scheme would suit this particular genre?
 - the colour scheme that would suit my genre would be dark colours. Colours like dark reds, blacks, dark oranges and even some dark purples like the veins on the face.

3. What textures and type of shapes would best suit this genre?
- the shapes that are used in my poster are sharp, organic shapes as they kind of flow with each other and are made naturally.

4. Who is the intended audience for your website?
 - The intended audience for my poster would be aimed at older teenagers and above. This is because you can tell by the dark colours and the colours in the eye.

5. a) Which font best suits your film genre?
 - the font that i have chosen that best suits my film is called rough typewriter

  b) what is an appropriate title for your film?
 - The title for my film is insomnia
